We are back for Week Three of the Spring Edition of the One Room Challenge, hosted by Linda from Calling it Home. For those of you not in the know, the ORC is a biannual blogging event where designers and decorating obsessed folks sign up to redo a room and document the process on their blogs. Oh, and we only have six weeks to do it. On Wednesdays, the twenty featured designers show their stuff, and on Thursday the guest participants (that's me and about 200+ more people) will share their progress.
So here we are at Week Three. Another week, another set of woes. I guess it’s called a challenge for a reason... This week my focus was on the bedding. Every night for the past few weeks, I would scour the internet on the hunt for cute bedding for an eight year old boy. Not easy. Our son had a specific thing in mind (“black and blue stripes”) at first, but after I found a few options, he didn’t care for them (“Find something great. With a whale on it”). Okay. So. All the bedding I found with animals of any kind looked more suitable for a crib than for an eight year old. I asked my husband what he thought I should look for (“something not designery and for an eight year old boy”). This is the halfway point already. There should be some progress dammit! So far, I’ve got a headboard that isn’t even attached to the bed frame yet. So it is officially crunch time.
Yesterday, I set out with the intention of finding something for his room. At this point I didn’t care if it was small, I just wanted to feel like I was accomplishing something. After going to three or four different stores, I ran in to Kohl’s, which is somewhere I never shop but obviously need to keep in mind, because I found the bedding!!! I bought it but kept the receipt and kept it in the package, just in case my son didn’t like it. But he loved it, so hooray.
This morning I mentioned to him that I was going to paint his room soon. He was beyond unimpressed when I told him I was thinking of white. So after some discussion, and the request for the most elaborate sea life mural I have ever heard of, we decided I would paint it blue like the ocean. We had to get ready for school, so a color has not beed decided, but it will be somewhere in these colors.
I’ll be honest, I really wanted to go dark on his walls anyway. He likes his room to feel cocoon like, so this really is perfect. But I am not looking forward to the actual painting of the room. Ugh.
Although it looks like I don't have squat accomplished, I feel much better after finding the bedding. That was really stressing me out. Now I have a solid vision to work from, and I can get the bookshelf and attempt to figure out what the hell is going on with the closet. I'll probably skip painting it dark since his room will be dark. Maybe. We'll see :)
