Well, here we are at Week Four of the Spring Edition of the One Room Challenge, hosted by Linda from Calling it Home. For those of you not in the know, the ORC is a biannual blogging event where designers and decorating obsessed folks sign up to redo a room and document the process on their blogs. Oh, and we only have six weeks to do it. On Wednesdays, the twenty featured designers show their stuff, and on Thursday the guest participants (that's me and about 200+ more people) will share their progress.
Ugh. Last week was not a good week for my ORC room. We hit a huge snag and I'm not sure if it's something that I'll be able to overcome in time for the reveal in two weeks. Here's the issue: if you remember my post from week one, you'll recall me saying that due to the shape and size of the room, I was going to do a closet system type situation and omit the dresser from the main part of the room. Then, I was going to replace the small bookshelf with a bigger one to accommodate books as toys (because we have way more books and toys in this room than we do clothes!). We live in a rental so I didn't want to have a custom closet installed. My budget is practically non-existent, but I really wanted to do what I could to make this room better for our son. I saw these at Target, so I thought I could do a makeshift closet organizer. It was total garbage. Both of the top corners were crushed and one of the top corners of the drawers was crushed. Then the icing on the cake was the screws that were included to hold the drawer fronts on to the actual drawers were too small. So I took it apart, shoved it all back in the box and said forget it. There were some times over the weekend that I considered just throwing in the towel on the room challenge and just work on it on my own timeline. But I do really want to get this room finished, preferably by the time school is out/my sons birthday, which are both fast approaching. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Pretty much everything depends on the closet system. I really don't want to give up, and I really don't want to settle on one of the plastic three drawer bins that are super cheap. UGH. I'm going to go to Home Depot one more time to see what I can come up with, and at the very least paint the room. We picked out a color and we are all excited about it. Hopefully I'll have something to show on Thursday for week five!
